This week we are reading and learning more about birds. This topic fits nicely with our colour exploration and also our school concert item.
We have lots of budgies, parrots, quails and finches at school in our avairy. We also have some fluffy bantam chooks that lay wonderful eggs and lots of wild birds that visit our playground. So we have lots of birds to see first hand and learn about how to care for them.
Check out our National Geographic links for kids. They have some great short videos of a variety of birds.
We borrowed a big book about pet birds and have thus had lots of discussion about pet animals and wild animals.
This week we concluded swimming lessons with a final fun filled session. We did our usual exercises - blowing bubbles, walking, jumping and floating down the pool and then began a series of games.
In one game, the teacher had the children find floating coloured shapes and post them onto a floating base.
The children had to practise their long arm swimming technique down the length of the pool to collect the shapes and swim back to 'post' them correctly.
We had lots of fun, thanks to Nara our teacher.
This week we are also learning to recongise , say and sign the colour 'brown'.
Belinda read the story, "Brown bear, brown bear, what did you see?" with the children. They love the rhyme and repetition in this story.
We are also invesitgating how many different things are naturally brown and what things we can make brown. More painting and much fun! We may even make mud pies this week - sorry parents and carers if your children come home with evidence of our explorations!
We only have a few weeks left of school.
Next year some of the children in this class will be moving on to new classes.
We will keep this Blog going but will welcome a whole lot of new children to these pages in 2009. Don't forget to send us a message if you have something to share.
