We had a fantastic start to the new school year today.
The children were as excited as the staff to be in room 13. One of the great features of this room is the Interactive Whiteboard and we made good use of it today.
First thing this morning we typed our news in SymWriter, displaying it on the IWB. The children took turns to read their news as well as enjoying the audio function where the program will 'read' our text for us. Another program we explored is PCS animation. This is an extension of Boardmaker and animates individual 'buttons' to demonstrate what the button or symbol means. This will be such a useful tool to help develop comprehension. The kids were very engaged with this and I am looking forward to increasing their Literacy and Numeracy skills, just to name a few.
I am intersted to hear from other teachers who use Boardmaker on the Interactive White board and in particular create their own programs for beginning readers with or without an intellectual disability.
