Greetings to everyone!
This term our theme is 'Get the Message' - Communication.
What a fantastic theme. All the children have an individual communication goal.
Most children are learning PECS as a means of requesting.
There is, however, so much more to communicating than just requesting. So this term we will be learning about emotions and how to recognise these as expressions on other peoples faces, as well as our own, we will learn about how we can vary the tone and volume of our voices to convey meaning, we will make comments and observations by using words, sign or symbols.
We will all practise and increase our everyday use of Makaton/Auslan signs.
We will practise turn taking at speaking and listening. What a challenge that will be!
We will use role play with puppets and dress ups to help provide relevant context or 'atmoshpere' to facilitate learning to use different spoken texts.
This week we are beginning with a story by Joy Cowley titled, "Roy G Biv". As he introduces himself we will use this as a learning opportunity to practise how to introduce ourselves, friends and family etc. We will use and practise different greetings.
We will talk about the things that make us unique- our likes and dislikes, favourite clothes, colours, toys etc
As the children in room 14 are just learning to write we will practise writing and typing our name
with drawings and pastings about the things we like and who we are.
We will take lots of photos to help us remember all the things we are learning.
So, as you can see, we will be very busy.
Jill
