Colour Clothing Game

In room 14 today we introduced a new game to the children to practise their speech skills and further their colour recognition.

We used the colour spinner from our game of twister and had a collection of clothing in the colours green, red, blue and yellow.

Initially we sorted the clothing into colour groupings.

Next the children spun the colour dial and practised saying or signing the names of the colours.

Then they were ready to combine the skills and play the colour clothing game.

Taking turns to spin the dial and choose an item of clothing to match the colour the dial landed on is a skill in itself, but we got there.

There were a few issues with children wanting specific colours or items of clothing so we had to remember the rules of the game and fair play.

The final result was quite hilarious.

We will further develop this game to using cards with items of clothing illustrated on them, placed face down, similar to a memory game. The children will spin the dial to get a colour then choose a card to see what item of clothing they need put on. They will then practise their oral language skills and ask the group leader for the coloured items they require.

this style of game is popular in the junior unit as it provides many opportunities for teaching concepts and practising our oral language skills in a fun way.
