Hi everyone,
We have had so much fun in room 1 this term already. As you can see by our picture trail we are exploring Masks through Fairy tales and Fables.
The children love dressing up and exploring the idea of becoming someone or something else.
Part of the journey through this theme will involve exploring our emotions, how to emphasize an emotion or feeling with our voices, facial expressions on ourselves or created on masks, with our body language and props- clothing, puppets etc
Thus far we have used Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Where the Wild things Are as our texts.
Cecily, our Occupational Therapist is also helping us learn about the Alert Program- the skills of emotional self regulation. This involves helping children recognise how their bodies feel when engines are running high, low or just right. We are teaching them to identify what things or activities they find useful to calm or 'wake up' in context to the appropriate situation .
Already we have heard some saying, " Okay kids, engines on high, ready for outside play," ( Blade) or " My engines are too high, I need to be just right! help please, Jill" ( Daniel)
Other children are beginning to recognise that their internal engines need to be calmer, just right, when it is rest time or work time, not too revved up and not too low.

We are also welcoming to our room, Sue, a student teacher, for the next four weeks.
we hope she has lots of fun in our room during this time.

Jill
