Welcome to the last week in February.
This week we will be exploring what our school rule- We Make Good Choices- means. What does it look like, sound like and feel like when we make good choices. As part of this process we are choosing books to read that discuss or represent a character making a choice. Last week we read the Very Hungry Caterpillar. As part of our investigations we examined the foods the caterpillar ate in the story and discussed choices we might make and why.
This week we are reading Pamela Allen's Belinda. This story looks at a funny scenario where Old Tom is left to milk the family cow whilst wife, Bessie, is away. Poor Old Tom has quite a battle with Belinda and after trying all kinds of approaches resorts to dressing up like his wife Bessie.
Old Tom perseveres with something he knows he needs to do and keeps trying until he suceeds. An important ingredient in Making Good Choices.
Learning to make good choices involves staff, parents and carers modelling how to make choices, good and otherwise, what the consequences are of our choices and how to persist at making better choices. It involves affirming children for each attempt and effort they make, remembering that learning social skills takes place over a long period of time.

This week our achievement awards go to William for communicating well with staff and friends and to Drew for making good choices during work and play time. Well done to both boys.
