Greetings to everyone.
This week we have continued exploring communication through sound.
We have begun reading Mr Gumpy's Motor Car by John Birningham. Mr Gumpy needs everyone to help push the car up the hill in the rain and so he asks who will help. No one wants to get out in the mud and the rain, but eventually they all have to. With lots of grunt and effort the car successfully reaches the top of the hill.
This is a simple story about a drive in the car, but there are so many concepts and skills we can practise and talk about through it. Today we talked about the sounds cars make when they start up, when they drive slowly/ quickly, get stuck in the mud and so on.
My plan is to increase the children's awareness of the sounds of traffic, different types of vehicle sounds and other noises associated with traffic.
We have also been practising asking for help either using words, sign or symbols.
The children had lots of fun constructing cardboard cars which hopefully will soon be zooming around our pretend traffic zone outside.
The other skill we have been working on is requesting either with words, sign, symbol or gesture. When food is involved we can be so clever and our communication is really clear!
Only two weeks of term left!
Have a good week everyone,
Jill
